Quality Assurance
UWIC operates a robust and structured research degrees framework with quality procedures designed to satisfy and enhance the precepts of the QAA Code of Practice for the assurance of academic quality and standards in higher education.
Research Degree Quality Assurance takes place within a framework predicated on establishing school level quality assurance procedures, overseen and scrutinized by the Research Degrees Committee (RDC). A sub-committee of the Research & Enterprise Board, RDC reports its findings to the Academic Board.
The RDC receives, co-ordinates and considers all research degree matters including research degree proposals, progress monitoring, changes of arrangements, and the appointment of examiners. The committee is assisted by the Research & Enterprise Services team and the Quality Enhancement Unit of the Learning & Teaching Support Unit.
Each academic school operates its devolved responsibilities through a School Research & Enterprise Committee. Academic Registry maintains the remit for research degree enrolment, matriculation, exam board appointments and the conducting of examinations.
Policies and procedures relating to research degrees at UWIC are set out in the Research Degree Regulations and supplemented by Handbooks for Research Degree Supervisors and Students. Additional guidance regarding policy and procedure is provided to all levels through dedicated Guidance documents that accompany all research degree quality assurance paperwork.
