UWIC Appointment Strengthens Food Skills Group
An industry expert from the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff (UWIC) has been appointed to the Food Industry Skills Strategy Group.
Helen Taylor, UWIC’s Food Industry Skills Co-ordinator, will lead the group focusing on the development of technical education for the food industry in the 21st Century.
The aim of the highly motivated, collaborative academic and industry group is to deliver short courses and Masters level modules to aid in the development of world class food technologists as part of the Food Industry Skills project which is funded by the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales.
David Lloyd, Director of the Food Industry Centre at UWIC and member of the group, said: “Helen brings a wealth of valuable experience to the group. Having worked in the industry for over 15 years she has a great understanding of the needs of the sector and will be key to developing food science professionals across Wales.”
Helen has worked in the food industry for 15 years, across all industry sectors and her experience covers employment with some of Wales’ leading food manufacturers. She has worked closely with all major UK food retailers and is experienced in all aspects of New product Development including all aspects of processing, packaging and labelling for food, food legislation and food safety.
Helen also leads the Packaging Innovation Group (PI Group) based at UWIC. The PI Group offers a unique service to the food and packaging industry, combining the food science and technology skills with packaging design expertise.
She is also a trained lead auditor within the food industry on an international level and is a member of the Institute of Packaging (IOP).
Helen applies her experience and knowledge further by undertaking consultancy in industry working with companies on technical solutions for their business.
