UWIC Professor Joins Improve board

Professor Chris Griffiths, Head of Food Research at UWICA PROFESSOR from the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff (UWIC) has recently joined the board of Improve, the sector skills council for food and drink.

Professor Chris Griffith, Head of Food Research at UWIC, was one of four leading industry figures who have recently been appointed to Improve’s board.
 
Professor Griffith is one of the country’s foremost authorities on food hygiene and safety, has received numerous international awards and is well-renowned in both the manufacturing and academic worlds. With more than 30 years teaching experience, Chris has written and developed a number of food safety related degrees and industry training courses. He has more than 20 years consultancy experience, advising companies and organisations in all aspects of food quality and safety.
 
Commenting on his recent appointment, Professor Griffith said: “It is an honour to be appointed to the board and the experience will be of benefit to both UWIC and its new Food Industry Centre, due for completion in 2008, as well as the food industry across Wales.”

The three other members to join the Improve board are as follows:
  • Stefan Barden, Chief Executive of Northern Foods
  • Simon Jackson, Executive Director of the Institute of Brewing and Distilling
  • Iain MacLean, National Officer responsible for food, drink and tobacco within UNITE – the union (Amicus section).
