Award Helps Lecturer Get CreativeA SOUTH WALES-based dancer has received a Creative Wales Award that will enable her to expand her creativity.

Tanja Råman, who lectures at the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff (UWIC), was awarded £11,100 at a ceremony in the Senedd recently.

The Creative Wales Awards are funded by the Arts Council of Wales and aim to enable artists to explore and expand their creativity without financial worry. For 2006/07 19 artists have received a share of £300,000.

Tanja’s most recent choreographic works include Kaiku (Echo) which reached semi-finals in the prestigious choreographic competition The Place Prize 2006; Kuuluako (Belonging) which toured across Wales and was also presented at the Royal Opera House; and Kaihokaksi (Longing 2), which premiered at the Royal Festival Hall in London.

Tanja was delighted with her award which will allow her to develop her distinctive style of choreography. She said: “The Creative Wales award is a great recognition and represents a milestone in my creative career.

“I am going to use the award for professional development in choreography. I will focus on movement dynamics, particularly speed of movement as a means of expression in choreography.”
