Professor Rose Cooper
Cardiff School of Health Sciences

Date: 26 November 2008
Time: 5.45pm for 6.00pm start
Venue: Lecture Theatre A031, Llandaff

Summary

Honey is an ancient remedy that has recently been re-introduced into modern clinical practice for managing wounds. Many therapeutic claims have been made for honey, which include its antiseptic qualities and its ability to stimulate rapid healing.

However, clinical evidence supporting these claims is not unequivocal, underlying mechanisms of action that are not fully understood and many medical professionals remain sceptical about its benefits.

In this inaugural lecture, Professor Cooper will outline the recent developments in wound care products that contan honey and review advances in which honey might promote improved healing.
