Cardiff School of Education
Research Centres
The research community within the school is fast growing and is concenrated in two main research centres: Education and Humanities.
Most of the educational research is firmly grounded in practice applications and knowledge transfer, while the philosophy of research in Humanities is connected with the examination of political science, political history and the exploration of specific genres within the field of English literature.
Education Research Groups
Staff within the Cardiff School of Education have a wide range of research interests. Interdisciplinary research links are already established with the Schools of Sport, Art and Design, and Health Sciences.
As well as staff with established research profiles, a significant proportion of lecturers are undertaking higher degrees and developing additional research interests to contribute to the school’s portfolio. The school's research output has been submitted for the Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) 2008.
The Centre for Humanities
Since its inception in 2003, the centre has continued to develop a research portfolio linked closely to both the Humanities Social Sciences and Educational Studies. Eighty per cent of the Centre's staff are qualified to PhD level, with one Reader (Dr Russell Deacon). The lecturers within the Centre for Humanities have a wide range of research interests. These tend to focus on the academic disciplines of Educational and Childhood Studies, Politics, History and English Literature. The centre runs an annual programme of open seminars which attracts leading researchers and practitioners in the field of Humanities and the Social Sciences.
